Generate Buzz with a Save the Date Campaign

Why is it a good idea to have a Save the Date for a product release?

Save the Dates is a great marketing tool that generates buzz or awareness about an event or a product and builds anticipation and excitement among your audience.

Today’s topic in the Problem & Solution Series is how to use a Save the Date campaign and why it’s essential for promoting the sale of your products or services.

For instance, a tech company could use a Save the Date campaign to announce the launch of a new app, generating excitement and anticipation among its user base. I consulted a client about their upcoming eBook, and they were excited to share their new line of t-shirts. I asked what the release dates for both products were and whether they coincided.

My client explained that the eBook was in final edits and completed in July. They also explained that a new line of T-shirts came later in the month. I suggested they use a save-the-date campaign and place it on their social media.

Typically, you start a save-the-date campaign four to six weeks in advance, allowing your audience to prepare for the upcoming event or, in this case, a sale. Being strategic ensures that your audience is well-informed and ready for the event. It’s often best to plan the event’s marketing to make people aware of the Who? What? When? And Where?

Below are the stages that generate buzz during the Save the Date campaign.

Stage one is the planning phase.

Finalizing what product will be sold or promoted. In this instance, my client decided to focus on their eBook. I suggested they place a countdown ticker on their social media accounts to make their subscribers aware of the upcoming event.

Stage two is the generate buzz phase.

You can give a hint or a teaser as to what to expect from the save-the-date. For example, the client can provide the ebook cover or snippet of a chapter each week leading up to the release date. During this phase, you may receive questions about the cost of the product; however, you can put that off until the campaign’s final stage.

Stage three is the final phase of the Save the Date campaign

The promoted event, in this case, an eBook, is readily available to be sold and downloaded.

I encourage my clients to use the Save the Date campaign process because they can pinpoint what steps to take to promote their products or services. If they have difficulties deciding what they want to market first, I ask what the priority is and go from there. In this case, my client will publish their eBook and then move to promote their t-shirt line with these same steps.
